In the wake of Donald Trump’s now infamous remarks about Mexico and Mexicans, most pundits credit social media with achieving what many Latinos thought impossible: a united front from the Latino community to deliver an economic punch against anyone blocking their participation in our civic culture. There is another force at play here which, if not the direct cause of this result, is the foundation of its trajectory. In the annals of politics, it is a “slow walker.” But if we look back, as Donald Trump failed to do, we see its impact.
